A NOTE ON WEATHER:

April in the Sacred Valley is the tail end of the rainy season and the beginning of the dry season. Pack for mild temperatures (45-70°F / 7-21°C) and some lingering rain showers.

  • Cash

  • Power adaptor for power outlets (Peru’s standard voltage is 220)

  • Notebook & pencil

CLOTHING

  • Lightweight, waterproof rain jacket

  • Fleece or packable down jacket

  • Breathable long-sleeve shirts

  • Moisture-wicking base layers - for hikes & cooler nights

  • Quick-dry hiking pants - versatile & comfortable

  • Lightweight T-shirts - for warm midday temperatures

  • Wool/hiking socks - helps with warmth & moisture control

  • Water-resistant hiking shoes/boots with ankle support

  • Yoga & fitness wear

  • Swimwear

  • Beanie & gloves - for chilly early mornings in higher elevations

HIKING ESSENTIALS

  • Backpack/daypack

  • Sun protection - Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen - the sun is very strong at high altitudes

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Chapstick & moisturizer

  • Small pocket knife - for fruit etc.

  • Small flashlight with extra batteries

  • Personal care toiletries: tissues, wet wipes & zip lock bags for day hikes

FUEL + NOURISHMENT

  • Organic/healthy bars or snacks

  • Electrolyte packets

  • Personal medications/supplements

ALTITUDE TIPS

  • It can take the body some time to adjust to being at high altitude if you are not used to it. Taking a low dose aspirin the week leading up to the trip + during the trip can alleviate some of the symptoms of altitude adjustment.

  • Also be prepared to need more water to stay hydrated and more/stronger sunscreen to stay protected from the strength of the sun at altitude.
